The Commandant’s Shadow.

Join us for a powerful and deeply moving screening of The Commandant’s Shadow, a feature-length documentary that confronts one of the darkest chapters in human history through an extraordinary, never-before-seen lens.

About the Film:
The Commandant’s Shadow follows 87-year-old Hans Jürgen Höss as he confronts the legacy of his father, Rudolf Höss — the notorious Camp Commandant of Auschwitz responsible for the murder of over a million Jews. While his family's story inspired the Academy Award-winning The Zone of Interest, this film reveals the real people behind the history — those who lived inside the commandant’s villa, and those who struggled to survive just beyond its walls.

At the heart of the documentary is an unprecedented and intimate encounter between Hans Jürgen Höss and Auschwitz survivor Anita Lasker-Wallfisch. Eight decades after the Holocaust, they meet — along with their children, Kai Höss and Maya Lasker-Wallfisch — to grapple with guilt, memory, and the shadows cast across generations.

Featuring haunting excerpts from Rudolf Höss’s own long-forgotten autobiography, the film offers undeniable proof of the atrocities at Auschwitz, countering denial and distortion with chilling clarity.

Why This Film Matters Now:
In a time marked by the resurgence of antisemitism and fresh waves of hatred, The Commandant’s Shadow offers a vital reminder: reconciliation requires truth. Only by facing the past can we hope to change the future.

Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness a historic and deeply emotional conversation between past and present — and a rare story of hope, healing, and humanity.
