FREEDOM!
The idea of imagining slavery or being kept hostage is not a foreign idea. These past two + years we have lived with the plight of the hostages, their suffering, their release and now their stories.
On the eve of the Seder we will quote the Mishna that states in each generation we are commanded to see ourselves as if we ourselves were freed from Egypt.
What does it really mean to be free? In a beautiful letter from the Rebbe, he writes that freedom is the knowledge that 100% of every aspect of who we are is capable of change.
Imagine if 23 hours of a day you were free to do what you want, but from 12-1 each day you were at the mercy of your overlord or captor. The enslavement doesn't just apply to that one hour of the day, but the other 23 hours are not really free either.
If 23 parts of who we are can change but there is one part of us that restricts us from living fully, or if there is one part of who we are that we are enslaved to, then we are not truly free.
This is the first step to freedom; the awareness that we are not bound by anything! This awareness is not wishful thinking, it is anchored in our infinite connection to Hashem. When we are connected Above, we become limitless.
As we sit down this evening at the Seder, let us recall the love of Hashem for us when He took us from Egypt and made us His People and gave us the ability to rise above the limitations.
Join me in prayer for our brothers and sisters in Israel for safety and peace. For good people everywhere, may this Pesach usher in a new era of true freedom, from all the things inside each of us that limit our ability to be connected in a limitless manner.
