A War Time Reminder

This week we end the second book of the Torah - Shemos. As is the tradition we announce and call up on strength three times - Chazak Chazak Vinischazek - be strong, be strong and be strengthened. In Jewish teachings, three creates a permanence and enforces.

We call on strength to strengthen as we conclude a book and begin a book, drawing strength to continue in our Torah study.

Nothing is by chance however, and announcing these words in the middle of a war must have direction for us in the present circumstances.

There are many spiritual activities that we can engage in to strengthen the war effort. The Rebbe Highlighted a few of them and I'd like to call on this moment of strength to remind you and me of them.

Tefillin - The Prophet says, that the nations of the world will see the name of Hashem upon you and will be frightened. Our sages say this is a reference to the Tefillin.

Shabbat Candles - did you know that Nerot Shabbat Kodesh - which means the candles of the holy Shabbat spells the word Neshek - which in modern Hebrew means munitions? The light of the Shabbat candles offers a powerful energy into the world that bursts through the atmosphere to eliminate the desires of the enemy and strengthen those on the front lines. It is of course a spiritual energy, but its potency is greater than any physical weapon.

Tzedakah - There is nothing a parent loves more than seeing his/her children get along with each other. Giving Tzedakah to others, giving of your hard earned money to those in need, is one of the greatest acts that demonstrate to Hashem our care for each other.

Let's strengthen ourselves in these areas. If I can help you put on Tefillin or if you would like to purchase your own Tefillin let me know, we'll make it happen!

If you light Shabbat candles already, enhance the mitzvah by giving Tzedakah right before you light. Have a tzedakah box nearby. Let me know if we can help - we have small Tzedakah boxes available. Candle lighting this week is at 7:25. Ps. It is better not to light at all, then to light after sunset.

May Hashem see our efforts and truly give us and all those needing strength to win this war and eliminate not only those that wish Israel, the US harm and its allies harm, but also usher in an end to war, the coming of peace and the era of Moshaich now!

Good Shabbos and Chazak Chazak Vinischazek!
