Rosh Hashanah is coming (in December)
Rosh Hashanah is coming. The Rosh Hashanah for Chasidism that is. It is called the Holiday of Holidays in Chabad circles. It commemorates the liberation of the first Chabad Rebbe, Rabbi Schneur Zalman from Czarist prison. His liberation represented a heavenly victory over the negative forces that wished that the profound teachings of Chasidism be contained and not shared with the world.
Today, these teachings enrich Judaism, give depth to observance of Mitzvot, a deeper understanding of Torah and most importantly uncover the personal nature of each individual creation's relationship with the Divine.
It is for this reason it is called the Holiday of Holidays; because it is through the gift of Chasidus that the other holidays get their depth.
Rosh Hashanah – a day of acceptance of G-d as King.
Yom Kippur – a day of oneness with the Divine
Sukkot – a holiday of Divine embrace
Simchas Torah – a celebration of our essential relationship with Torah that transcends the Torah’s wisdom
Chanukah – a celebration of self sacrifice, accessing the essence of our soul
Purim – also a celebration of self sacrifice but accessing the essence of our soul through the physical world
Pesach – liberation that is achieved through the transcendence of Torah
Shavous – a celebration of the essence of Torah that is the birthright of every Jews from the moment of birth
When this day was first commemorated 200+ years ago one never would have imagined both the reach and impact of these teachings. I venture to say that the impact has accelerated in the recent past and as the world searches for greater meaning the teachings will be ever more impactful.
